Dear client,
Thank you very much for your purchase and for your trust in DeGreyes.
Your Panama Hat is an artisanal piece made from natural toquilla straw fibre. Each hat is unique and should be treated with care in order to preserve its shape, finesse, and elegance over time.
To preserve the shape of your Panama Hat, we recommend always handling it gently by the brim.
Avoid holding or pinching the hat by the crown, as this area is more delicate and may weaken over time.
When putting on or removing your hat, please make sure your hands are clean and dry.
The Panama Hat is made from natural fibre. It may tolerate occasional light humidity, but it should not be exposed to heavy rain or become excessively wet.
If your hat becomes damp:
• Gently shake off any excess water.
• Allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.
• Never place it near a radiator, hair dryer, fireplace, or under direct sunlight.
• Do not store it while it is still damp.
Direct heat or excessive humidity may deform the hat and weaken the natural fibre.
To remove dust, use a soft, dry, clean cloth or a very soft brush.
For a small stain, you may use a slightly damp cloth and gently dab the affected area. Do not rub strongly and do not use chemicals, harsh soap, alcohol, or stain removers.
The hat should never be washed, soaked in water, or machine cleaned.
When you are not wearing your hat, keep it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Ideally, store it in a hat box or on a clean surface, without pressure on the brim.
Avoid placing objects on top of it or leaving it compressed inside a suitcase, bag, or crowded wardrobe.
To preserve the shape of the brim, do not leave the hat flat for long periods with weight on the edge.
When travelling with your Panama Hat, the best option is to wear it or carry it in a rigid hat box.
We do not recommend folding, crushing, or rolling it, unless the model has been specifically designed for that purpose. Excessive pressure may crack or mark the natural fibre.
If the brim becomes slightly misshapen, it may be gently reshaped using light steam or careful ironing.
To iron the brim, first pre-moisten the area slightly with a damp cloth. Then place a clean protective cloth between the iron and the hat, and iron gently using low to medium heat. Never place the iron directly on the straw.
This should only be done on the brim, not on the crown, as the crown is more delicate and can lose its shape or weaken.
For any major reshaping, we recommend consulting a professional hat specialist.
Slight variations in colour, texture, or weaving are part of the natural and artisanal character of each Panama Hat. They are not defects, but a sign of a handmade product crafted from natural fibre.
With proper care, your DeGreyes Panama Hat can preserve its beauty and elegance for many years.
With our thanks,
DeGreyes
